What we look at together
We ask about work, lifting, sports, breathing-related pain and any recent injury. The relationship between shoulder, neck and upper-back movement can help guide assessment. Relevant medical history matters, especially when symptoms are unexplained.
Options to discuss
When appropriate, care may include movement advice, targeted exercise and selected manual treatment. Goals might include reaching comfortably, tolerating a desk task or returning to activity. A changing pattern or poor response calls for reassessment.
When to seek medical care
Chest pressure, shortness of breath, fainting or sudden severe upper-back pain can be an emergency. Fever, significant trauma or pain with unexplained illness should be evaluated medically.
Make the visit useful
Bring relevant reports, a medication list and a description of the activities that are difficult. At our Bloomington office, ask how the findings connect to your goals, what alternatives exist and when progress will be reviewed. You should understand both the proposed care and its cost before deciding.
A change in symptoms or lack of meaningful improvement is a reason to reassess. Care may involve a medical referral or collaboration with another clinician. This guide cannot determine the cause of your symptoms.
Care to explore
- Chiropractic care — Hands-on care, guided by your goals.
- Rehabilitative exercises — Build capacity for the things you want to do.
A common question
Is this just poor posture?
Not necessarily. Prolonged positions may influence symptoms, but an assessment should consider other causes rather than assigning blame to posture.
