What we look at together
We ask about onset, lifting or sitting patterns, previous episodes and symptoms traveling into a leg. Examination helps determine whether the complaint appears musculoskeletal or needs medical investigation. Imaging is considered in context rather than assumed to be necessary.
Options to discuss
For suitable presentations, a plan may combine chiropractic care, gradual activity and rehabilitative exercise. The aim is to improve tolerable movement and daily function. Decompression is a separate discussion with important evidence limitations; it is not a default treatment for back pain.
When to seek medical care
Seek emergency care for new bladder or bowel dysfunction, numbness around the groin or saddle area, or severe or worsening weakness in both legs. Fever, major trauma or unexplained weight loss also warrant prompt medical evaluation.
Make the visit useful
Bring relevant reports, a medication list and a description of the activities that are difficult. At our Bloomington office, ask how the findings connect to your goals, what alternatives exist and when progress will be reviewed. You should understand both the proposed care and its cost before deciding.
A change in symptoms or lack of meaningful improvement is a reason to reassess. Care may involve a medical referral or collaboration with another clinician. This guide cannot determine the cause of your symptoms.
Care to explore
- Chiropractic care — Hands-on care, guided by your goals.
- Spinal decompression — Understand your options for back and leg pain.
- Rehabilitative exercises — Build capacity for the things you want to do.
A common question
Should I stop moving completely?
After serious causes are ruled out, gradual activity is often part of care. Ask what movements and amount of activity fit your current symptoms.
