What we look at together
We ask about swelling, locking, giving way, a recent twist or impact, and how symptoms affect walking or stairs. An examination helps identify when a rehabilitation approach is reasonable and when medical imaging or orthopedic evaluation may be needed.
Options to discuss
Appropriate care may emphasize progressive strength, movement and activity adjustments. Cold laser may be discussed as an adjunct with condition-specific evidence limitations. Neither laser nor chiropractic should be presented as reversing arthritis or regrowing cartilage.
When to seek medical care
A hot swollen knee with fever, inability to bear weight after injury, major deformity or a locked knee needs prompt evaluation. Sudden calf swelling or shortness of breath requires urgent medical attention.
Make the visit useful
Bring relevant reports, a medication list and a description of the activities that are difficult. At our Bloomington office, ask how the findings connect to your goals, what alternatives exist and when progress will be reviewed. You should understand both the proposed care and its cost before deciding.
A change in symptoms or lack of meaningful improvement is a reason to reassess. Care may involve a medical referral or collaboration with another clinician. This guide cannot determine the cause of your symptoms.
Care to explore
- Rehabilitative exercises — Build capacity for the things you want to do.
- Cold laser therapy — An adjunct to discuss—not a promise of repair.
A common question
Do I need to stop all activity?
The answer depends on the cause. A graded plan may preserve activity, but an acute injury, locking or substantial swelling needs assessment first.
